What happens at your appointment
Ear examination first to confirm whether wax is present and removal is suitable
Microsuction (if appropriate) using gentle suction under direct visual guidance
Aftercare advice and next steps to take if your symptoms continue, even after treatment
If ear wax isn’t the cause of your symptoms, we’ll explain the findings from your ear health check and advise you on the most appropriate next steps. Depending on your individual needs, we may recommend seeing your GP or booking a hearing assessment with one of our audiologists.
In this situation, only the £25 Ear Health Check fee applies, so you won’t pay the full cost of an ear wax removal appointment when no treatment is needed.
Microsuction vs Ear Irrigation in Church Stretton
Why we use microsuction
Microsuction is water-free and carried out under magnification, so the clinician can remove wax with direct visual control, minimising discomfort and irritation. Unlike traditional syringing, microsuction does not requires 10 - 14 days of pre-treatment ear drops and some patients do not use drops at all, although applying for 1 -2 days before your appointment can be helpful and effective when wax is dry, hard or very compacted.
What about ear syringing / irrigation?
Irrigation uses water to flush the ear canal. It isn’t suitable for everyone, and outcomes can vary depending on the ear and the wax. At Interhearing, microsuction is the primary approach; if microsuction isn’t appropriate on the day, we’ll explain why and advise the safest alternative.
