At Interhearing Wolverhampton, we help by confirming whether ear wax is the problem and removing blockages safely using an effective suction treatment called microsuction - the same method used in ENT departments and hospitals.
At your Wolverhampton appointment, our NHS-trained clinicians will first examine your ears using specialist microscopic loupes, so we will know for sure if wax is present and ear wax removal needed. Microsuction
A Safer Alternative to Ear Syringing

At Interhearing, we use microsuction, a quick, safe and water-free ear wax removal method. Using magnification to see the ear during treatment and gentle suction, your clinician can remove wax carefully, precisely and comfortably.
Unlike syringing or ear cleaning using water irrigation, microsuction does not require ear drops for weeks before treatment. Using drops the night before and on the morning of your appointment can help if the wax is dry, deep or compacted, although some patients need no preparation at all.
Microsuction has replaced ear syringing as the recommended method for safe and effective wax removal. Unlike syringing, microsuction can be used even if you have a history of perforations or ear infections and is suitable for many patients who cannot tolerate water-based syringing treatments or who need earwax removal quickly.
Avoids unnecessary discomfort
Ear syringing introduces water into the ear canal, disrupting the natural balance of the ear. This can potentially lead to infection, inflammation, tinnitus, vertigo, and ear drum perforation.
Ear wax removal via syringing also lacks the precision of microsuction, which uses a microscope or microscopic loupes, for accurate ear wax removal. Removing wax without being able to see into the ear, can mean that ear cleaning is left incomplete, there is also a higher potential ear damage or pain.
The Ear Wax Removal Procedure
Your appointment begins with a clinical ear examination to confirm whether wax is present and whether removal is appropriate.
If treatment goes ahead, wax is removed carefully under magnification and we will talk you through the procedure every step of the way. After earwax removal is complete, we’ll help you with practical aftercare advice and tips for keeping your ears healthy and well
If no wax is found during the initial ear examination, we’ll talk you through the possible causes of your hearing loss and and advise on next steps.
Microsuction ear wax removal is often described by patients as a comfortable and effective treatment, with most appointments taking around 20 minutes.
