Why we use microsuction for ear wax removal
Microsuction is viewed as the safest, fastest and most effective method of ear wax removal as it is suitable for the wide majority of patients.
Quick, safe and water-free - microsuction removes ear wax without flushing water into the ear canal, making it a cleaner, effective and more comfortable alternative to traditional syringing or irrigation.
Precise and controlled - treatment is performed under magnification, allowing your ear care clinician to remove wax carefully using gentle suction.
Minimal preparation needed - unlike syringing, which may require weeks of ear drops, microsuction usually needs little or no preparation. If wax is very hard, dry or compacted, using olive oil 1-2 days before treatment can be helpful. If your appointment is booked for the same or next day, simply use olive oil before your appointment, if you are able.
Safer alternative to syringing - microsuction is often the preferred, and more comfortable option if you have a history of ear infections or perforated eardrums, and as a safer, comfortable alternative to water based treatments.

What will happen at your appointment?
When you arrive for your ear wax removal appointment at our Interhearing clinic in Earley, please check in at Reception to let them know you have arrived. Soon, our Interhearing clinician will come to meet you in the waiting room and take you through to our clinic room for your appointment.
We will begin by taking a short medical history, answering any questions you may have about your treatment, and carrying out a pre-treatment ear health check.
If no wax is found, we will always let you know and offer advice on your next steps towards better hearing. If there is no wax to remove, you will only be charged our £25 consultation fee.
If wax is the cause of your symptoms, we will make sure you are comfortable before beginning treatment and carefully removing the earwax blockage using a fine, gentle suction technique called microsuction. Treatment is usually completed in one appointment, however, if a second appointment is recommended, this will be included in the original price and will be valid for up to 4 weeks after your first treatment date.
