It can take a bit of time to get used to hearing aids, technology can feel a bit daunting initially. Don’t worry, given a bit of time and practice you will soon become an old hand at using them with the help of the videos below.

How to fit your Phonak Audéo hearing aid

It’s important that your hearing aid is fitting properly in your ear. If it isn’t it may fall out, start making a whistle sound and affect the sound quality. You know when the hearing aid is in your ear properly because the wire that comes down from the hearing aid to your ear is touching your ear all the way down.

How to recharge your hearing aids

This is only for the rechargeable Phonak hearing aids. As soon as you put the hearing aids in the charger it will turn them off and start charging them. You will also notice that the light starts to flash red, orange or green. A 30 min charge will give you 6 hours use, 2 hours charge is fully charged (light flashes green) and will give you 24 hours use. When you take them out of the charger then they will turn on automatically.

How to change your battery

Hearing aids use a special type of battery called a zinc and air battery. These batteries only last for 4-7 days when in a hearing aid. When you put the battery in the hearing aid you have to take off a small sticker on the flat part of the battery, this allows air to get in the battery and start the reactions in the battery that generate the power.

How to turn your hearing aid on/off (non-rechargeable)

This video shows you how to turn your hearing aids on/off for non-rechargeable hearing aids. It is simply done by opening or closing the battery draw. The battery draw is at the bottom of the hearing aid and is where you place the battery.

How to change the Cerustop filter

These filters are for Belong (B) and older hearing aids only. Filters stop the wax in your ear getting into the hearing aid. The part that goes into your ear is the speaker unit (receiver), this is where the sound comes out of the hearing aid and into your ear. This receiver has a dome (rubber grommet) on the end to keep it in place in your ear.

How to change the CeruShield filter

These filters are for Marvel (M) hearing aids only. Filters stop the wax in your ear getting into the hearing aid. The part that goes into your ear is the speaker unit (receiver), this is where the sound comes out of the hearing aid and into your ear. This receiver has a dome (rubber grommet) on the end to keep it in place in your ear.
Need replacing every 6 months at least.

How to change the Dome (Rubber Grommet)

Domes are the rubber grommets that it on the end (receiver) of the hearing aid. It is the Dome that goes in your ear when connected to the hearing aid. Over a period of time this can start to tear, this tearing indicates it needs replacing.

How to clean your hearing aid

Cleaning your hearing aids is an important thing to do daily. This is usually best done at night when you take the hearing aids out. It can prolong the life of your hearing aid and help keep it operating at its optimum.
